Meet the Grand Prairie Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.

We’re the crew that shows up when your spring snaps at 6 a.m. or your opener quits before a holiday weekend. Every person on this page lives in the Grand Prairie area or close enough to call it home. What ties us together isn’t a handbook. It’s the K.E.Y.S. code we train under: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. Carl Dutton started this in 1984, and he still hires every technician himself.

Our People

Carl Dutton, Owner

Carl opened Mainspring Garage Door Co. in 1984, naming it for the torsion spring that carries a door’s full weight - the part he was replacing most often back then. He spent his first fifteen years on ladders in Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Irving before he started putting other technicians in trucks. Carl still answers calls himself when the lines stack up, and he personally reviews any job that needs a callback. He keeps a whiteboard in the office with every active repair noted in marker, not software. Off the clock, he rebuilds vintage motorcycles in a shop behind his house in Dalworthington Gardens and will talk carburetors longer than most people find reasonable.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with us twelve years, and he’s the technician other crews call when a door system doesn’t match the manual. He holds a certification in high-cycle torsion spring systems from the International Door Association and has developed a particular specialty in wind-load-rated doors for Grand Prairie homes near Joe Pool Lake, where the open exposure chews through standard hardware faster. Marcus grew up in the Lake Ridge area and still lives there with his two dogs. He carries a small notebook where he sketches spring configurations that failed in unusual ways - he’s got forty-seven pages now, and he references them when a job doesn’t look right.

Elena R., Senior Installer

Elena joined Mainspring after eight years installing commercial dock doors in Dallas-Fort Worth, and she brought a rigor to residential work that raised our whole standard. She is factory-trained on Clopay, Amarr, and Wayne Dalton product lines, and she’s the person Carl sends when a customer in Mira Lagos or Somerset wants a custom carriage-house door matched to HOA specifications. Elena checks every track level with a torpedo level even when the laser says it’s fine - she doesn’t trust anything she can’t hold in her hand. On weekends she coaches a youth soccer team in Grand Prairie, and she’ll recognize your name if your kid plays in the league.

Darnell K., Service Coordinator

Darnell is the live voice you get when you call (972) 645-4416 at 11 p.m. on a Sunday. He’s been with us six years, and before that he dispatched for a commercial HVAC outfit, so he knows how to triage an emergency without panicking the caller. Darnell maintains the parts inventory across our trucks, and he’s the reason our technicians rarely need a second trip - he knows which springs, cables, and openers each job likely needs before the truck leaves the yard. He lives in Grand Prairie’s Westchester neighborhood and walks his route every morning at 5:30 a.m., rain or the usual Texas summer bake. He remembers voices. If you’ve called before, he’ll probably ask how the last repair held up.

Javi M., Apprentice Technician

Javi is in his second year with Mainspring, training directly under Marcus on every job type from spring replacement to full opener rewires. He came to us from a residential construction crew in Arlington and had never touched a torsion spring assembly before his first day. Now he’s certified in cable and roller replacement and is working toward his full torsion spring qualification. Javi grew up in the MacArthur area of Grand Prairie and still lives with his parents while he saves for his own place. He asks more questions than any apprentice we’ve had, which is exactly why Carl hired him. His current obsession is understanding why certain brands of rollers fail faster in Grand Prairie’s clay-heavy soil conditions, which shift concrete and stress door alignment differently than sandy loam areas.

One Standard, Every Job

We operate across thirteen cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but the Grand Prairie crew works as its own unit. Every technician here wears the same uniform, carries the same background-check clearance, and writes the same 90-Day Done Right Promise on every invoice. The flat price we state before any work begins applies whether you’re in Lake Parks, Forum Parkway, or the older ranch homes near Carrier Parkway. We don’t use outside contractors, and we don’t send a second truck because the first one lacked parts. When we say we’ll be there when we say, that’s a commitment made by a person who answers the phone, not a routing algorithm. Carl checks the Grand Prairie board every morning. If something’s off, he drives out himself.
